High school, grades 9 through 12, engages students in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. The curriculum is structured to build college caliber writing, math, and critical thinking skills required for success in a college environment. AVCS is also committed to development of moral and spiritual character as well as leadership potential within each person through a well rounded program of community involvement and other extracurricular activities. Students participate in academic competition sponsored by the Associated Christian Schools International (ACSI) including creative writing, public speaking, music, technology, and dramatic presentations. NINTH GRADE - English: a rigorous writing program that builds composition skills. Includes research papers as well as book analysis and reporting.
- Math: Algebra I or Geometry or Algebra II.
- Geography, a one semester course in World Geography, includes physical geography as well as world cultures.
- Health, a one semester course in Human Physiology and basic principles of good health
- Science: Earth Science includes basic meteorology, oceanography, chemistry, geology, physics, and electronics
- Communications, one semester course in public speaking and presentations
- Composition, one semester course in styles and skills of writing, including essays, research papers, speeches, poetry, and short story
- Bible – The Life of Christ
- Computer: Microsoft office applications with emphasis on academic applications, spreadsheets and power point presentations
- Foreign Language
- Electives in art, music, drama, journalism, computer, leadership
TENTH GRADE - English: the writing program continues to focus on honing composition skills through research papers and literary analysis
- Math: Algebra II or Geometry
- World History: The Cradle of Civilization, Western Civilization, Eastern Civilization and History, the Reformation Era, the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, and Modern International relationships
- Science: Biology with lab includes botany, human anatomy and physiology, zoology, cellular biology
- Computer: Microsoft office applications with emphasis on academic applications, spreadsheets and power point presentations
- Foreign Language
- Bible – Let God Be God, studies in the nature and character of God
- Electives In Art, Music, Drama, Journalism, Computer, Leadership
ELEVENTH GRADE - English 11- the writing program continues to focus on honing composition skills through research papers as well as literary analysis with an emphasis on American authors.
- AP English Literature or AP English Language
- U. S. History, including the formation and establishment of America, the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Industrial Revolution, and America's role in twentieth century conflicts and international relations
- Science: Chemistry with lab
- Bible-Connecting with God, an in-depth study of the New Testament Epistles
- Electives in Art, Music, Drama, Computer, Leadership, advanced Foreign Language
- Math: Algebra II, or Trigonometry
TWELFTH GRADE - English 12: writers and works for the Anglo-Saxon, Medieval, Elizabethan and Puritan periods, the Eighteenth Century, Romantic Era, Victorian Age, and Twentieth Century.
