Karen Hester

Welcome to the Junior High School! My name is Karen Hester and I am the Principal of the AVCS Jr. High. Working with the Junior High students at AVCS is one of the bright points in my life!

AVCS Junior High is a place where young people grow academically, socially, and spiritually in a nurturing community. I believe the Junior High years are an opportunity for a young person to forge his own path and try new experiences among a supportive faculty. Now is the time we can “hook” them for learning and wise living.

In just two short years your student must move from being an Elementary child to a full fledged teenager. These years cannot be left to chance! Each child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and develop his full potential.

Junior High students undertake a rigorous, pre-college preparatory curriculum. The learning environment is one of teamwork, collaboration, and encouragement. We seek to help the Junior Higher discover their talents, skills, self -discipline, responsibility and develop a love for learning.

Students develop a sense of camaraderie through outdoor camp experiences, team projects, sports activities, and social events. Science students collaborate in teams for research projects and reports. English students produce short dramas and reader’s theater presentations. History students form teams to “conquer the known world” in World History games. Each of these activities is designed to help build a unified and caring group of students. They will learn how to support one another in their achievements.

Each academic course is integrated with Biblical truth. Students are taught critical thinking and analytical skills so that they will develop their own personal beliefs. Our Chapels once a week encourage the students to develop a heart for God and others. Our Bible curriculum leads the student through a survey of the Old and New Testaments to give them a foundation for faith.

AVCS is a place where your teen can form friendships, explore new ideas, and develop academic skills that will last a lifetime. We hope you will find it an exciting place for your family.

In Christian service,

Karen Hester
